Our MBC Life Podcast Forges a Path of Hope and Information

Our MBC Life is a powerful, groundbreaking podcast that amplifies the voices and shares the realities of those living with metastatic breast cancer (MBC).  Each episode is told from the perspective of people living with the disease, along with the experts who partner with them to improve their lives.

Our MBC Life was created with tremendous passion and skill as a legacy project by Lisa Laudico in 2020, together with a dedicated team of volunteers also living with MBC.  They were guided by the belief that no one should have to face metastatic breast cancer alone.

The response of the MBC community was extraordinary from the very beginning.  In the first season, topics ranging from research on brain metastases, to grief and remembering those who have died of MBC, to racial disparities in MBC healthcare, inspired 2,300 downloads and 1,577 unique visitors to the website—with more than 4,000 page views.

Listeners told us they felt seen. They appreciated the honest and unfiltered conversations, the inclusion of rarer MBC experiences, the diversity of guests and topics, as well as the episodes that featured caregivers alongside patients. Every story felt relatable–because it was real.

Since then, the podcast has grown from strength to strength.  To date, Our MBC Life has produced 160 episodes and has racked up more than 82,000 downloads. Its vibrant and ever-growing community now spans 141 countries and continues to grow–proof of just how deeply these experiences resonate around the world.

This March, a listener shared her experience with the podcast:

“My hope, like my metastatic breast cancer education came from the podcast through and through. Sometimes it’s so hard to be in a space and because sometimes you’re hopeful, and sometimes you’re not. But the fact that I’m learning about how much research has been done, the advancements that have happened in breast cancer, especially metastatic breast cancer, feels really comforting. And then we learn so much from the doctors, and also from the lived experiences of other people and women that have gone.”

It’s like you’re going through a very deep grief of losing the life that you thought you’re going to have. And so I was, super thirsty for community, for knowing other people, like, how you do you live with this, how you deal with this? And I found the podcast. And I think at that moment, when I found the podcast, this must have been already, like, season two or three. And I just kept listening. Every time I was on a car, every time I was cooking, I kept listening to the podcast…

“I’m so glad that you guys are actually a resource for all of us, and it’s been super important. That’s where I got my education.”

To everyone who has contributed– from the podcast team and volunteers, to the listeners who keep showing up: thank you. Your voices and support are what make this community what it is.
